Input needed ~

Drew and I finally got off our butts and took the measurements for the loft area.

We bounced ideas around, it was tons of fun.

We are going to change out the closet.

Here's where I'm torn.

We are always thinking of resale.  We will not be living here for the rest of our lives.

Our home is 4 bed/3 baths with an unfinished basement.

Our city is mostly young families with lots of kids.

We are trying to keep in mind the kind of people that will be looking to buy our house.

We are thinking that all the bedrooms will be used for just that, kids bedrooms.

In the loft, we have this nice, unused closet that is begging to be greater.

Do we make it into a storage closet with a bench seating for shoes or maybe a reading nook??

Or, do we take into consideration the parents??  Make this closet into an office/craft space??

What space would make more sense?  And this is in a loft area that will be turning into a library/game/social area.

XOXO

Let me know... I love BOTH ideas, of course!!

The desk Area would make more sense. I think You guys would use that space more then the reading nook. Reading nooks are great but realistically you could read in your hammock out back. you know!? I vote for the office area!! How CUTE will that be!!?! It could be a craft area too, if you didn't want to put your comp. there you could put your sewing mating there. Check out Katie over at Creativity Living..she has a cool closet that she turned into her craft room! Good luck can't wait to see what you do!!

What would you like the most? I'd pick office probably, but I would most certainly choose the one that would be the most useful to me at the time. Don't worry too much about resale unless you want to put a jetted tub in the middle of your bedroom or you'd like to eliminate all the bedrooms in favor of turning your house into a giant greenhouse. Who knows who will buy your house. It could be people just like you!

I think part of it depends on where the loft area is in your home. Is it near an entrance? Because if not, having a "mudroom" set up like House of Smiths' closet probably wouldn't be as functional. (although, I did just re-read that you said you'd use it as a reading nook... haha)

I love the idea behind the second choice - especially with that little bench for curling up and reading (or for kitty snuggling).
This would also make a great homework desk for kiddos, not just the parents :)

I think the office is the best of the two (although I love them both). Built-ins are fabulous sales features and an office is so versatile. And who doesn't need a desk?? :)

I have to agree with ladies who commented before me, I would do the office. As a buyer I would see the reading nook as a waste of storage space. But that office made into the closet is fantastic. Cant wait to see what you do.

I'm going differ from what the other ladies have said and say go with the reading nook/storage space. This is a great way to add more hidden storage to the house. Who couldn't use some extra storage? And, depending on the size and setup of your loft, a desk or office area could always be added to the loft in the future. :)

Hmmm.....I have both a cloffice and a reading nook in my house. As I sit here typing I am in my cloffice. I love it and think it's really a great use of the space. Although I am also going to transform our back entry closet into a mudroom area so I guess it depends on where this space is located. Good luck, they are both great ideas!

    Hi Meg
I too think the office space would be Ideal.
I think of a place where they could do there homework, or craft projects.
    Love the second picture.
    Have a good one Ann/alba
