I love her.
I know you do too.
We all love her.
We love her talent for transforming furniture into pieces of art.
We love Marian.
I want to be her when I grow up.
I've been dying to try milk paint. I've watched her video series about how to get the chippy look with milk paint. I've got some of her new paint on order, but it hasn't shipped yet and I'm the most impatient person on the planet. So, I used this stuff:
I found this set of tables locally for $25. For the whole set.
Pretty, but pretty beat up.
I wanted the super chippy look, so I only sanded the tops since that is where all the damage would happen. And I really only took the shine off.
Let's get ready to paint!!
Milk paint is awesome. Mix it with water and go. It smelled a little... well... rotten egg-y. I painted 2 coats and after a couple hours, it was already chipping. Drew came in from the garage with the saddest look on his face and said "There are bald spots on the tables.". He had no idea that's exactly what I was looking for. The more of the poly finish you leave, the more chipping you will have.
I took a plastic scraper and helped the chips to come off. Sanded the tops just a little. Then I added the Oyster White touches. For the bits on the tops, I just drew those with white chalk and then painted over that with the milk paint. Then topped with 2 coats of wax.
And wa-la:
Do you just love the underneath bits?!?
Think they are a little MMS??
I adore how these turned out. Even better than I had imagined.
Super pretty. Super chippy.
We love you Miss Mustard Seed!

P.S. Thank you SO much for all your sweet words and kind thoughts over the passing my dear friend, Cathy. The pain is still very great, but your words are so very appreciated!

So glad you didn't put any other design on the top of the coffee table - now you'll be able to dress it seasonally. These are awesome!!

Love this! and I know what you mean about those paint smells! I've been using the Killz latex product that is supposed to be as great as their oil-based product but it smells like New Orleans French Quarter on a super hot, humid day... sewer right at your feet kinda smell EWWWWWW!!!!!!!
ReplyCheers!
